LORD, how they have increased who trouble me! Many are they who rise up against me.Mayn are they who say of me, "There is no help for him in God." But You, O LORD, are a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head. I cried to the LORD with my voice, And He heard me from His holy hill. I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the LORD sustained me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people who have set themselves against me all around. Arise, O LORD: Save me, O my God!
For You have struck all my enemies on the cheekbone; You have broken the teeth of the ungodly.
Salvation belongs to the LORD, Your blessing is upon Your people.

Bullies, Betrayers, and Battles - life is full of them. These are the stressful thime when we can so often feel as though God has forgotten about us. Feeling powerless to control our situation often causes tossing, turning, and sleepless nights. When king David wrote this psalm he was in a crisis. He was fleeing from his betrayer - his son, Absalom. Absalom plotted, schemed, lied to the people about his father, and ultimately turned against his own father to dethrone him -he wanted to be king. Can you imagine how David felt?
Maybe you can. Bullies, betrayers, and battles come into the life of every Christian. What do you do when they do? What did king David do? How did he handle the crisis he was in? First, he recognized God was his protector: "But You, O LORD, are a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head. "(vs 3) Secondly, he prayed: "I cried to the LORD with my voice, and He heard me from His holy hill." (vs4) Third, He put his faith in God, knowing He was in ultimate control of his life, and would
answer his prayer. Because of that, king David had a peaceful night sleep: "I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the LORD sustained me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people who have set themselves
against me all around." (vs5-6) Finally, he left vengence to God: "Arise, O LORD: Save me, O my God!
For You have struck all my enemies on the cheekbone; You have broken the teeth of the ungodly. Salvation belongs to the LORD Your blessing is upon Your people." (vs 7-8).
PRAYER: Father, I'm beset with bullies, betrayers, and battles. I'm overwhelmed. I know you are in control of my life and will take care of my enemies. Help me keep my eyes on you during this
painful time. I know You are for me, You are my Help, and You are my victory. During this dark time, help me to keep my eyes on the true light of the world, my Jesus.
